Phonics | i before except after c | Reading Practice Pack

£2.99

This pack introduces children to the spelling rule ‘I before e except after c’ when the sound is ee.  Children will learn to read words such as believe, grief and conceited, as well as becoming familiar with some common exceptions such as neither, foreign and weight.  Learning this pattern can help children recognise and read unfamiliar words more easily, while learning common exceptions will help them recognise words that do not follow the usual pattern.

Children will read the short story A Day Out at the New Forest, about Sam and Kim’s trip to the New Forest.  It includes lots of words containing ie and ei, giving children plenty of opportunity to practise reading these words in context.  Read the story several times to help your child become familiar with these words.

This pack is useful for children who are learning to read words containing ie and ei, as well as children who need extra practice.  Repeated reading will help children become more confident at recognising these letter patterns and reading the words more easily.

The story is taken from the final book in our Learn To Read With Phonics reading scheme.   We have split the book into separate resources for those looking for extra help in a particular area.  To purchase the complete book, click here.
