Write a Discursive Essay: Should AI be Used in Homework?
Join Jamie Foxley and his panel for Fox for Thought, the chat show that discusses all the important topical issues of the day. In this episode, they debate the question: Should AI be allowed in homework?
This resource uses a written chat-show style dialogue to introduce students aged 13–16 to the skills needed to write a successful discursive essay. Students begin by reading a scripted conversation between the host, his panel, and callers phoning in to share their views on the topic. Through the discussion, a range of clear arguments for and against the use of AI in homework are explored.
After reading, students identify the main points on each side of the debate and reflect on their own opinion of the issue. They then practise expressing their views by imagining that they are calling into Jamie Foxley’s chat show and writing their own short conversation to share their perspective.
Students go on to plan a discursive essay answering the original question. They read an example response before writing an essay of their own.
This fun pack supports students in developing critical thinking and teaches them how to write a balanced argument. It is ideal for classwork, homework, or exam preparation.
